Prof. Maode Ma, College of Engineering, Qatar University, Doha, Qatar

Biography: Prof. Maode Ma, a Fellow of IET, received his Ph.D. degree from the Department of Computer Science at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology in 1999. Prof. Ma is a Research Professor in the College of Engineering at Qatar University in Qatar. He has extensive research interests including network security and wireless networking. He has over 500 international academic publications including over 250 journal papers and about 250 conference papers. His publication has received close to 10,000 citations in Google Scholar. Prof. Ma currently serves as the Editor-in-Chief of the International Journal of Computer and Communication Engineering and the Journal of Communications. He also serves as a Senior Editor for IEEE Communications Surveys and Tutorials, and an Associate Editor for the International Journal of Wireless Communications and Mobile Computing and the International Journal of Communication Systems. Prof. Ma is a senior member of the IEEE Communication Society and a member of ACM. He is now the Chair of the ACM, Singapore Chapter. Prof. Ma has been a Distinguished Lecturer for the IEEE Communication Society from 2013 to 2016 and from 2023 to 2024.

Speech Title: Accurate Detection and Mitigation of Blended Interest Flooding Attacks in Named Data Networks

Abstract: Named Data Networking (NDN) is a prominent implementation of the vision of Information-Centric Networking. The NDN architecture adopts name-based routing and location-independent data retrieval. It holds many important outstanding features including in-network caching, built-in multicast, mobility support, and native security mechanisms. The security functionality of the NDN aims to secure the content rather than the communication channels. NDN takes use of data signatures, which permits users to retrieve any available piece of content no matter where it comes from as long as the signature can be verified. Although NDN has integrated some security functionalities, it is not immune to certain malicious attacks such as Interest Flooding Attacks (IFAs). In this talk, the architecture, and operations of the NDNs with a focus on its security vulnerabilities will be first introduced. Then, a novel mechanism to accurately detect and mitigate IFAs and blended IFAs (bIFAs) will be presented as an example to demonstrate the state-of-the-art solution against IFAs and bIFAs. This talk is expected to promote research collaboration and research activities in the field of network security.

Prof. Mouquan Shen, Department of Control Science, Nanjing Tech University, Nanjing, China

Biography: Professor Mouquan Shen received the Ph.D. degree in Control Theory and Control Engineering from the College of Information Science and Engineering, Northeastern University, Shenyang, China, in 2011. From 2012, he was with the College of Electrical Engineering and Control of Science of Nanjing Tech University, Nanjing, China. His research interests cover Markov jump systems, adaptive control, data-driven-based control, robust control, and interactive learning control and so on. From 2015 to 2017, he was an visiting scholar with The Yeungnam University, The University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong, and The University of Adelaide, respectively. Since 2018, he has been a full Professor with the Nanjing Tech University, China.

Speech Title: Development of event-triggered control and recent new results

Abstract: This report introduces the development of event-triggered control and recent new results. First, an overview of the research background and some existing results in event-triggered control are provided. Second, our recent works are presented, including the integral-type event-triggered scheme, the discrete-sampling event-triggered scheme, the threshold-dependent event-triggered scheme, and the dynamic event-triggered scheme based on instantaneous and average triggering errors. Finally, some future research topics are discussed.
